India's parliament begins debate on a vote of confidence

India's parliament begins debate on a vote of confidence in the Congress-led government on Monday after its communist allies ended their crucial support in protest at a civilian nuclear deal with the United States.
The vote, due on Tuesday, is so close that several MPs who are ill may be flown or wheeled in from hospital, and others have been granted temporary release from jail.

If Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government falls, there will be early elections, possibly by year-end. This would almost certainly lead to the cancellation of the nuclear deal and halt all economic reforms, from insurance and banking to pensions.

Mallika will be a Naagin on screen

Mallika Sherawat will play the lead role in 'Naagin - The Snake Woman' - the first Hindi film to be directed by a Hollywood director-Jennifer Lynch, daughter of four-time Oscar nominee David Lynch, is all set to shoot the film about a subject that has always intrigued the West - the ancient myth concerning the Nag-Naagin (snakes) relationship.
Ratan Jain of Venus Records and Tapes is co-producing it with Vikram Singh and Govind Menon.

The film also stars Irrfan Khan , playing a policeman, who tries to pin down the Naagin and destroy her legendary powers.

Movie 'Jaane Tu ya Jaane Na' : A great success for Imran

Light college movie drama 'Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na' won the hearts of audiences on the day of its release and Aamir Khan, whose nephew Imran debuted in the film, says it got an opening only a superstar's movie would get.
''Jaane Tu...' got a response as strong as 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' (Aamir's debut film). It got an opening which only Shah Rukh (Khan) or Hrithik's films get,' Aamir, who is also a co-producer of the film, said at a press conference here late Friday.
Aamir, who was accompanied by Imran, actress Genelia D'Souza and director Abbas Tyrewala, said the movie's fresh look and young star cast had made it popular.
Asked about his creative contribution towards 'Jaane Tu...', he asserted that Abbas was the main creative force behind the movie.
'The only thing I did for the film is that when Abbas brought me the script I said it is a great script. Go with it,' Aamir said.

Lalu ' Mango ' !

Laluji put the railways back on track, gave B-school students in Singapore management gyan, has been a contestant on a TV game show AND starred in a Bollywood movie. Now vendors are selling mangoes (Rs 35/kg) with his name on it.
Railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav has become Brand Lalu. There are Lalu dolls, Lalu chocolates, Lalu fodder ,Lalu cosmetics and now Lalu Mango.
Last year Lalu crackers were a big hit during Diwali and during Holi Lalu water spray guns, besides other items, made their way to the market. The minister has also talked of his Bollywood ambitions.
Lalu told Shah Rukh Khan that "whenever he is producing a film and needs anyone to do the role of a politician, I am always there." Lalu has already done a cameo in the movie Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav and last month he appeared in an episode of the TV show Paanchvi Pass.

We observe that the striking posters of SINGH IS KINNG [on display in cinemas in the international markets] have the Punjabi (Gurmukhi) equivalent of the film title at the bottom.
An intelligent ruse to draw here is that the Punjabis will be the core audience in the UK and Canada, followed by all the diverse Asian communities who've been going gaga about the promos of the keenly anticipated title.
